Steel / welded constructions

For decades, we have established ourselves on the market as a reliable manufacturer and supplier of rotationally symmetrical drive components made of durable cast iron. Our product range includes standard pulleys available from stock as well as customised pulleys for special customer requirements.

With our flexible and economical moulding process, we are able to meet almost all requirements in terms of geometry and shape. As a rule, individual pattern equipment is not necessary. This means that there are no additional model costs for our customised cast iron products.

Since in some applications it is not possible to use drive elements made of grey, spheroidal or cast steel, we also produce drive and flywheel pulleys as steel/welded constructions. These are either manufactured from standardised semi-finished steel products or adapted to individual wishes and requirements as customised special pulleys. Steel/welded constructions are better due to their increased stability despite their lower mass and are mainly used for large drive pulleys with high working loads.

Our V-belt, flat belt and flywheel pulleys are characterised by high quality, functionality, sustainability and durability.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When is a drive pulley made of steel or a welded construction a better choice than one made of grey cast iron?

Steel and welded structures are typically used for large disc diameters, high torques or drives subject to high dynamic loads. They offer greater structural strength whilst reducing mass, and are particularly suitable where grey cast iron reaches its limits due to load, geometry or operating conditions.

Which technical standards and design principles are taken into account in steel and welded structures?

The design is generally carried out in accordance with current standards such as DIN 2211 / DIN 2217. In addition, the dimensions may be determined on the basis of moments of inertia in order to optimally meet the requirements for smooth running, start-up behaviour and energy storage within the system.

What types of connections and shaft-hub joints are possible in steel/welded structures?

Depending on the application, various connection options are available, e.g. pre-drilled hubs with keyways and threaded locking mechanisms, as well as versions for Taper-Lock sleeves or clamping sets. This allows for flexible integration into existing drive systems.

Can steel and welded structures be manufactured to customer-specific drawings?

Production is always carried out in accordance with individual customer drawings or specifications. Geometry, drilling patterns, shaft connections, choice of material and surface treatment can be designed and implemented to suit specific projects – even for one-off items or prototypes.

Which manufacturing and quality characteristics are verified?

The components are manufactured, including mechanical machining. This includes, amongst other things, balancing in accordance with standard quality grades (e.g. DIN 21940), documentation of material properties, surface treatment and, optionally, test and acceptance reports.

What are the typical applications for steel and welded structures in the drive sector?

Typical applications include conveyor systems, crushing equipment, pump and compressor drives, and systems with high moments of inertia or large pulleys. These designs are used particularly in applications where a high level of operational reliability and adaptability are required.
